Officials in Carbonear are pleading with the public to obey the fire ban after a busy weekend dousing unwarranted fires.
Crews were called to Columbus Drive on Saturday afternoon to fight a small forest fire behind the Dollarama in the town, which was cleared after some help from nearby departments.
Later that evening, the volunteer fire department was called to address a pit fire in the area.
They’re asking residents to respect the ban, which is in place for most parts of the northern Avalon, including Trinity-Conception and metro.
Some municipalities in central have implemented similar restrictions.
The situation will be evaluated this week.
