Newfoundland comedian and writer Rick Mercer is touring the country with his Stand-up for Canada Comedy Tour, wrapping up in St. John’s this fall.
Canadians have been turning to more overt ways to celebrate their national pride following threats to Canada’s sovereignty by U.S. President Donald Trump, and this is a good time for a comedy show says Mercer who’s getting back to his comedy roots.
“I mean there’s obviously a lot to rant about,” says Mercer about the current political climate, but it’s “about celebrating the country, celebrating what’s good about the country. I’m not going to go out and dump on the States for the entire night, because, quite frankly, they’re doing that themselves. It’s an empty netter.”
The tour kicks off September 11 in Saskatoon and travels to 21 cities across the country — finishing October 19 in St. John’s at the Arts and Culture Centre.
Mercer will be joined on stage by Canadian comedians Sophie Buddle, Mayce Galoni, and Julie Kim.
Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10:00 a.m.
