The sound of revving motorcycles will fill the air in St. John’s tomorrow for the annual Ride for Dad fundraiser.
The event is held every year on Father’s Day weekend to raise funds for and awareness of prostate cancer,
VOCM’s Brian O’Connell, who is also the honourary ride captain, is a prostate cancer survivor himself.
O’Connell says he had a prostatectomy – a radical procedure – back in 2014, and credits early detection as being the only reason why he is here today to talk about it.
He says prostate cancer “doesn’t always shout; a lot of times it just whispers,” noting that there have been a lot of medical advancements since he was diagnosed over 10 years ago.
The event begins in the parking lot of the Newfoundland Power building with pre-registration at 8:30 a.m. The bikes leave the lot at 10 a.m.
