Premier John Hogan says governors of northeastern U.S. states are “extremely frustrated” and worried about their economic futures as a result of trade tensions between the U.S. and Canada.
Hogan attended meetings of eastern Canadian premiers and northeast U.S. governors in Boston yesterday.
The premier says it was eye-opening to hear how northeastern U.S. states are being affected by Trump’s trade policies.
He says the governors expressed frustration over what’s going on, “and almost looking to us (Canadian premiers) for help in certain economic areas, which is interesting to see.” Hogan says another major takeaway from yesterday’s meetings was hearing about the need for more energy from Canada in New England and beyond.
“They don’t have enough energy,” says Hogan, “and however we can work with them to get it to them, to benefit Newfoundland and Labrador, was a big topic yesterday as well.”
