School is almost out for the summer, and a clinical child psychologist is encouraging parents to limit their kids’ screen time during the break.
Dr. Janine Hubbard admits that having a “screen free summer” is unrealistic in this day and age.
However, she stresses that it is important to restrict screen time, for both kids, and adults, because “we’ve all forgotten how to be bored.”
Hubbard says she would like everyone to spend time over the summer being bored, which encourages creativity, problem solving, and creates interests.
She says time away from screens should be intentional, and the whole family should set some time out—such as an evening or a weekend.
