St. John’s native Andy Knight scored three goals, including the golden goal in overtime, as Canada marched their way to the championship at the world U-20 Ball Hockey Championships in Poprad, Slovakia.
Canada would go up 4-0 in the first seven minutes, but the Czechs would come back and keep the game close.
Also from this province, goalie Scott Kirby, defenceman Matteo Rotondi and assistant coach Michael Dyke joined the team en-route to the gold medal.
The team went undefeated in the opening round, earning them a bye to the finals.
On the womens side, Newfoundlanders Rachel Hardy, Molly Gill, Abby Fleet, Brooklyn Kitchen, Haley Ryan, Julia Butler and Cassie Drover collected silver in their showing against Czechia.
