Two young sweethearts who threw a recently-discovered message in a bottle into the ocean 13 years ago have a relationship that is still going strong to this day.
Earlier this week, a wine bottle with a hand-written note was discovered on a beach in Ireland. The only information contained within was that it was from a couple named Brad and Anita who were on a day trip to Bell Island in September of 2012, and a phone number.
After the information was posted to social media, it quickly got back to Brad Squires who ended up marrying Anita Moran.
Squires reminisces that the trip came very early on in their relationship.
He says he had forgotten about the message in a bottle, noting that he wasn’t sure it even survived the initial throw into the water.
Squires chuckles as he remembers throwing the bottle with all his might off of the high cliff, assuming that it had “hit many rocks” on the way down. He says it was a “pleasant shock” to hear that the bottle survived and was found.
Squires says it is a special coincidence that the bottle ended up in Ireland because they took a trip there for his 30th birthday, and it has always had a “deep connection” for them. When people started reaching out to him about the discovery, he knew that “it was always meant to be there.”
