It’s only early in the summer break, but the Single Parents Association is already gearing up to get kids ready for back to school.
Starting today, donations are now being accepted for the annual Block the Bus campaign in partnership with the VOCM Cares Foundation.
Danielle Seward, executive director at SPANL, says every donation counts in helping families across the province.
She says despite sounding like a broken record, demand has never been higher in terms of number of families looking for help. The association opened applications for the back to school program last week and demand was so high, Seward says the website crashed within 20 minutes.
Seward says donations of all school supplies are much appreciated that are appropriate for teenagers, such as age-appropriate backpacks and geometry kits.
A donation bin is located at the Village Shopping Centre with the event scheduled to wrap up on August 8 in the mall parking lot with VOCM broadcasting live, filling a Metrobus full of supplies.
