A woman involved with promoting tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador says she has seen a bump in interest this year following tensions with the United States.
Lori King is the founder of the Facebook page and website Staycation NL.
King says there is a lot of activity in the group, noting that they got almost 500 new members last week alone and they are seeing a lot of people from outside the province joining in. She thinks that could be indicative of Canadians choosing not to go south and choosing to come to this province instead.
King says there is also increased interest from people wishing to go to St. Pierre et Miquelon.
She says many people are heading down to the Burin Peninsula to get to the French islands, noting that it is great to see people heading to that area of the province.
