Parts of Labrador are in for a significant dumping, as some areas could hit nearly 50 mm of rain on Friday.
Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says the rain will start after midnight tonight and ramp up at sunrise in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area.
While central Labrador will be hit the hardest, other areas are expecting less rain through the weekend.
Hubbard says while the rain will be heavy, it doesn’t look like the same system that resulted in flash flooding in Quebec.
“One of the things about this system is that the rain is going to be falling over an extended period of time,” he said. “So that tends to give that rain and moisture time to do its drainage and be absorbed into the ground. But at any point there could be some heavier pockets of rain with this. And at times that could mean excess water on the ground.”
