An active wildfire near Small Point in Conception Bay North has prompted a significant response from firefighting crews, with both a water bomber and helicopter on scene. Route 70 has since reopened, but officials urge motorists to avoid the area unless travel is essential. Local traffic only is advised on Route 70 and surrounding side roads as suppression efforts continue.
In Lewisporte, a wildfire that was knocked down earlier with the help of two water bombers remains under close watch by forestry crews.
A province-wide fire ban remains in effect as dry, windy conditions persist. VOCM is tracking both situations and will provide updates as they become available.
