Communities on the northeast Avalon outside the Metrobus service zone are considering some type of public transit to help people get around.
Torbay and Portugal Cove-St. Philips are spearheading the initiative, which began with a public survey. That survey determined there was enough interest to proceed to the next stage – a feasibility study.
Torbay Mayor Craig Scott says it’s difficult to live in the region without a vehicle or without access to one, so they are going to look at some possibilities.
Most people work in St. John’s or surrounding area, and most of the medical facilities are in St. John’s.
“There is a growing need, and this will potentially eventually offer new residents the opportunity to come and live in our town,” said Scott.
Residents of Flatrock, Logy Bay, Wabana, and Pouch Cove are also invited to participate.
