Morning race results
Capital Home Hardware (9:32.47), East Coast Kia (9:53.96), Torbay 9:59.49), Quidi Vidi Brewery (10:56.86) and Canadian Armed Forces Browning Harvey (11:04.94) round out the men’s field.
The women’s championship will consist of: Volkswagen St. John’s (5:27.80), Smith Stockley (5:36.81), The Cahill Group (5:41.03), All-Star Rebar (5:46.53) and Atlantic Inspection Services (5:53.18.)
Winds were on the strong side this morning as crews took to the water.
Connie Duffett of Volkswagen St. John’s says the wind is a factor but she agrees with the decision to go ahead with the Regatta.
“We were really pleased with the outcome,” says Duffett. “It was a little windy, we had a bit of a tail wind going down and then as we turned the buoys a fair amount of headwind coming back, but glad that we pulled it off.”
While the winds have died down, weeds in the pond caused some problems for crews earlier today, causing Regatta officials to find a solution.
The men go first at 6:30 followed by the women at 7:00.

Hall of Famer commends crews, volunteers
A Regatta hall-of-famer is commending all the crews for getting involved.
RNC Constable James Cadigan was a member of the 2007 Crosbie Industrial Services Crew which rowed to victory with a time of 8:51:32, a course record which stands to this day.
Crosbie Industrial was one of five new inductees to the Regatta Hall of Fame announced last week.
Cadigan says he has great respect for those involved in the Regatta.
“I just truly enjoy watching the dedication of people, their families and the community as a whole” says Cadigan. “When you see people and crews and volunteers down there every year putting all their time and effort into this event. And being able to compete in this event, that’s what truly inspires me, and I think I speak for anybody who’s involved in the Regatta.”
