One of the longest-serving vendors at the Royal St. John’s Regatta is back for another year.
The Torbay Vounteer Fire Department had contemplated giving it up this year after five decades pondside, but after lengthy discussion and debate, they decided to return, and Chief Rodney Goudie says the public is happy they did.
He says the rising cost of prizes and the difficulty in securing volunteers had them seriously contemplating not returning this year, but the public has been hugely supportive. “They love coming down to our booth, they love a chance at a prize…so we had many discussions at the department and we decided to keep her going at least for a year, if not many more years, we’ll see.”
