Today is a federal holiday across Canada and in most parts of Newfoundland and Labrador.
It’s typically the day set aside in towns and cities to mark their civic holiday, however, in St. John’s it’s usually held on the first Wednesday in August for Regatta Day.
This year, Regatta Day was pushed ahead to July 30th, because St. John’s is hosting the 2025 Canada Summer Games which start Friday.
The holiday means most municipal and government offices are closed today, and some businesses are also closed in towns that mark the civic holiday.
