The federal minister of indigenous relations says she’s ready to have talks with indigenous leaders as Ottawa gears up to fast-track approvals for major projects in Canada.
Bill C-5 aims to speed up projects across the country to better build the economy.
Government plans to start that process in September.
Minister Rebecca Alty office plans to discuss the Gull Island project in Labrador with indigenous peoples to hear their thoughts and concerns.
“Whether it’s Labrador or anywhere in Canada, it is somebody’s traditional land and so it is working with the Indigenous governments, explaining what it is, hearing concerns, and then working together to find those ways to accommodate or mitigate the concerns,” she told VOCM News.
