Volunteers spent the better part of the night in C.B.S. helping evacuated residents get the help they needed.

Many of the homes evacuated included seniors in the Holyrood and Seal Cove area.

Jan Keats with the Salvation Army says they’ve found hotels for multiple homeowners, and local businesses have started to step up.

“It’s actually overwhelming to see food being brought in. We needed it. We didn’t have to go ask,” she told VOCM News.

“People were coming to us, and even volunteers were coming in saying, ‘I’m here to help. Here’s my phone number and my name. Please get in touch if you need us.’ And I think that is community spirit.”
