Kingston Fire
The fire burning on the Conception Bay North Shore grew yesterday and was approaching the area of Northern Bay Sands.
An evacuation alert was issued yesterday for Job’s Cove due to the fire’s growth.
Water bombers and a high capacity helicopter worked on the southern edge of the blaze yesterday, but could not work on the northern edge due to heavy smoke. Crews hope to work on that area if conditions permit.
Government estimates at least 100 structures have been lost. Further assessments on structure loss will continue once it is safe to do so.
Paddy’s Pond Fire
Firefighting crews continue to work on the fire burning at Paddy’s Pond which remains listed as out of control.
The blaze remains around 300 hectares in size.
The Trans Canada Highway was reopened yesterday afternoon.
Construction on a fire break is now complete and more work will continue on the ground today in coordination with the Canadian Armed Forces.
All evacuation alerts and orders previously put in place remain in effect, however no new advisories have been issued.
Martin Lake Fire
There was minimal growth in the fire at Martin Lake yesterday. Air suppression efforts were used as the blaze was too intense in some areas to allow for suppression efforts on the ground.
The Bay d’Espoir Highway remains closed to traffic from Sunday Pond Resource Road to Cat Brook. Residents are asked to stay away from the area.
