The Whitbourne Fire Department made quick work of a brush fire that they believe was started by a cigarette butt.
Fire Chief Jamie Budden says the small blaze was located on the side of the road around 1:00 p.m. and they were able to get it out with one tank of water.
He says they did call the Bay de Grave Fire Department immediately for backup given how dry everything has been.
Despite repeated messages from officials about how easily fires can be started in these dry conditions, he says the fire appears to have been caused by a cigarette that was thrown from a moving vehicle.
