It won’t be long before residents of and visitors to Fogo Island and Change Islands have access to high speed internet.
Bell has just laid 16 km of fibre optic cable linking mainland Newfoundland with the two islands.
The director of network operations with Bell, David Joice, calls the project a major engineering achievement.
He says marine biologists, and sonar technology were used to find a safe route for the fibre without disturbing the local marine ecosystem.
They’re hoping to start connecting homes in the fall, something Joice says is a “game changer” for local residents.
“We know that having access to high-speed internet really enriches people’s lives.”
