The water system feeding the town of Sunnyside in Trinity Bay is back up and running.
The town had to take drastic action, declaring a state of emergency on Saturday due to extremely low water levels.
Pictures from the water reservoir shared on the weekend show a bare, empty depression in the ground.
Mayor Roger Snook says they’ve never seen anything like it before, and says the situation was caused by extreme drought conditions this summer.
The town started working on a resolution and bottled drinking water was brought in for households.
A contingency was put in place in the event of a fire and work was started on diverting water from a nearby pond into the town’s reservoir.
Snook says they put a pump into that pond and have been pumping water into the reservoir, a move which has worked.
He says a pump was successfully placed in the pond and water is being pumped into the river that feeds the reservoir. That, coupled with the rain, is helping the situation tremendously. It says rocks, debris and boulders were also removed.
Residents are still being asked to conserve water.
