The Town of Clarenville is asking residents to reduce water consumption due to historically-low water levels on the Shoal Harbour River.
Water flows 17 km down the Shoal Harbour River Valley from Shoal Harbour Pond and drought conditions in the province this summer mean that water levels are extremely low.
Mayor John Pickett says they usually put water conservation measures in place each summer, but this year, the situation is much worse.
“Our water supply now is extremely low. The reserve pond that we have to feed our Shoal Harbour water supply is getting extremely low as well. So, we’re just asking our residents to be cautious about the water that they use.
Not helping the situation was a water main break at the intersection of Highland Drive and Balbo Drive yesterday.
