The Town of South River says it is aware of a recent social media post made by a member of council that has generated significant public attention and concern.

The post raised eyebrows because of its intolerant and xenophobic nature.

South River has initiated a review in accordance with its Code of Conduct, and will not be offering further comment until that process is complete.

The town says the councillor’s post does not reflect the town’s position, and says the comments made were on a personal account, and reflect the individual’s personal views, and not those of the town.

The South River town council says as a municipality, it is committed to fostering an inclusive, compassionate and respectful environment for all residents.
