The Minister of Modernization and Service Delivery says the provincial government is just getting started when it comes to the implementation of cameras on school buses.
The government announced on Friday that six buses throughout the province will have cameras attached to the side starting in September. The purpose is to catch drivers who illegally pass school buses, with tickets being sent out to offenders in a similar manner to the speed cameras that were recently set up in some municipalities.
Minister Sarah Stoodley, who describes the initiative as a pilot project, says it is more of a “start,” though she could not be definitive as to when more cameras could be installed.
She doesn’t want to get ahead of herself, but does state that, “I see no reason why we can’t go really big really fast.”
