Thick smoke has descended on the province’s west coast leading to warnings about air quality.
Images from Corner Brook and surrounding area show smoke obscuring landmarks like thick fog.
The City of Corner Brook says the smoke is blowing in from the Maritimes due to fires currently burning in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
A special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada for the west coast where the air quality index is varying from 2 to as high as 8 or in some areas.
The smoke should dissipate this evening as wet weather moves in.
The city is encouraging people to limit their time outdoors and to take precautions to avoid exposure to the smoke.
