Yet another trial date has been set for a disgraced former St. John’s lawyer.
Fifty-five-year-old Michael Drover was stripped of all practicing privileges in 2017 for misusing almost half a million dollars of clients’ money.
He was also disciplined by the Law Society in 2007 and 2013 for conflict of interest and failing to protect a client’s property.
But things went from bad to worse exactly two years ago when he was arrested and charged with three child pornography offences; namely, making the material and unlawfully observing or recording people while naked.
That was around the same time that he was running a coffee shop on MUN’s St. John’s campus.
Drover pleaded not guilty, was released on conditions, and a trial date was set. But that went off the rails this time last year when he was arrested again and two more child porn charges were laid.
He was released again, and a new trial date was set for this past March, but that, too, was postponed.
Drover has been free on bail since last year, with strict orders to stay away from children.
His trial is now scheduled for October, along with an application to ensure he does not personally cross-examine a witness in the case.
