People across the province have been watching the work being done to help rescue and rehabilitate animals caught in the fire evacuation zone in Conception Bay North and one plucky little sheep is getting a lot of attention.
Newlife Rescue, an animal welfare group based in Carbonear has been working with first responders, ground search and rescue teams and other volunteers to rescue pets, and livestock lost or left behind when the fire started tearing through rural communities all along the North Shore.
Not all the stories have been happy ones, some badly burned animals recently had to be euthanized – but one seriously injured sheep has shown an extraordinary will to live and has the province cheering her on.
Sizzle suffered burns to her face, eye and feet, and while the injuries to her face are healing, her feet and hooves are very badly damaged.
Julia Parsons, who has been lovingly caring for Sizzle and is posting the animal’s difficult road to recovery on Facebook, is looking at having new 3D hooves or boots made to help the animal stand and walk more comfortably.
She’s accepting donations for vet care costs through Newlife Rescue or the Avalon Animal Hospital.
