Businesses and organizations are coming together to help first responders and those affected by the wildfire in Conception Bay North.
Trades NL, which represents 14,000 skilled trades workers in the province, is making a $100,000 donation to assist the Canadian Red Cross, Newlife Rescue in Carbonear and the North Shore Volunteer Fire Department.
Newlife Rescue has been on the ground in Conception Bay North rescuing pets and livestock from the fire zone.
Executive Director of Trades NL Bob Fiander hopes the donation makes a difference, and he’s calling on others to step up as well.
“I can’t say enough about the support, and I hope that other organizations get out there – people, organizations, companies, donate what you can; it’s really needed.”
In the meantime, Quinlan, which operates fish plants in Bay de Verde, Old Perlican and Baie Verte, is making a $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for their work helping people affected by the wildfire.
The contributions are being matched dollar for dollar by the federal and provincial governments, bringing the Trades NL donation to $300,000 and the Quinlan donation to $150,000.
The government matching program is in place until mid-September.
