Newfoundland and Labrador Housing has set plans in motion to build several micro-homes in the Buckmaster’s Circle area of St. John’s to help combat homelessness.
The provincial government says micro-homes are similar to so-called tiny homes, but in an apartment setting as opposed to individual houses.
An RFP has been issued for two buildings to be constructed on land owned by NL Housing on Army Street.
The first will have six 450-square foot studio apartments; the other will have four.
All of the apartments will be built with universal design, and two of those will be fully accessible.
The homes will be used to support people who are experiencing homelessness.
Government expects the RFP to be awarded later in the fall.
