WARNING – The details in this story are disturbing
One of Tony Humby’s alleged abuse victims says he kept going back in order to feed his drug and alcohol addiction.
The now 23-year-old says he was sexually abused by Humby almost every day over a two-year period just prior to COVID.
The young Indigenous man was a client of Choices for Youth in downtown St. John’s, and said Humby would pick him up nearby and take him to his trailer home, groping his crotch along the way.
Once there, he said he was plied with beer and marijuana till he was drunk enough not to care or resist.
He said the assaults included oral and anal sex, with Humby once telling him to bend over and touch his toes while naked so he could take pictures with his flip phone.
Afterward, he said Humby would give him $20 or $40 and send him back to the shelter in a cab, often driven by Bruce Escott, who has already been convicted and sentenced in his separate trial.
Asked to identify Humby in the courtroom, the man glared directly at him, unlike a previous complainant who said he just couldn’t look.
During one stop for beer, he said police approached the car while Humby was in the store, and asked if he was OK or needed help, which he declined.
Asked why by the Crown, he replied: “I needed my beer for the day.”
The trial continues today and this week, and then on and off until next May.
