The provincial government is providing an update on the support being provided for residents of the Conception Bay North Shore who were affected by the wildfire.
The Comfort Centre remains open at the Salem community centre in Small Point. Bottled water, grab-and-go meals, clean up kits and other supports and supplies are being provided by the Salvation Army and other on-site volunteers.
The Comfort Centre is open from 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. however, starting on Thursday, September 4th those hours will be pulled back to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Housing options for those who have lost their homes and are uninsured
Temporary housing assistance is available to households whose primary residence is uninhabitable and uninsured. NL Housing is helping families find accommodations. Eligible households should contact 1-855-724-3391.
Waste bins in Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove will be removed as they are filled. All other waste disposal bins in various communities throughout the region will be available until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3rd and will be removed after that time.
Appliance drop off sites are also available for contaminated appliances. Fridges and deep freezes must be emptied of all contents prior to drop off.
Water testing kits are available and water should not be used for drinking, cooking or brushing of teeth until testing is completed and the water is cleared.
