The New Democratic Party has committed to removing the provincial portion of the HST on what it calls essential children’s items should the party form government after the next election.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn made the announcement yesterday at the Newbornlander store on Cashin Avenue in St. John’s.
Dinn says a number of items would be included in the HST cut, including clothing, footwear, car seats, and garments designed for babies such as blankets, cloth diapers and bibs.
He says the cut would also apply to accessories for extracurricular activities such as dance costumes, shoes, jerseys, pants, vests, swimwear, and even school uniforms.
