A man from Trinity has been charged with poaching Atlantic salmon.
The provincial government says the man was noticed by resource enforcement officers on June 24th going out from the shoreline in a canoe, and confirmed that the man had set a net in that location.
Officials monitored the area until the next morning, when the accused is said to have returned to haul in the net, which contained four Atlantic salmon.
Officers from the Gander detachment, with the help of DFO River Guardians, arrested the man at the scene.
The salmon, a canoe, a 50-foot gill net, two knives, a semi-automatic rifle, and ammunition were also seized.
The man is accused of illegally netting and possessing salmon, and illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition out of season.
The man has been released to appear in court at a later date.
