Two wanted men were arrested on the weekend following an alleged crime spree involving multiple business break-ins and the attempted break-in to a home in Clarenville.
RCMP responded to alarms at two businesses, a retail store and car dealership, on Shoal Harbour drive shortly before midnight on Friday night.
The dealership confirmed that a newer model Ford F-250 Lariat was missing from the lot and a witness reportedly saw the truck racing from the scene.
The stolen truck was found abandoned on Stanley Crescent a short time later and police dog Marlow was brought in to pick up the scent.
The dog quickly located 38-year-old James Henry Perry, wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants, in the woods nearby.
Perry is wanted on charges laid in a number of police jurisdictions, including:
- Bonavista RCMP: assault with a weapon against a police officer, break and enter, vehicle theft, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
- Whitbourne RCMP: break and enter and theft over $5,000,
- Bay d’Espoir RCMP: break and enter, mischief, theft under $5,000
- Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) – failure to comply with a Probation Order.
A further search resulted in the discovery of a broken window at a nearby home and 34-year-old Mitchell Spurrell, also wanted by police.
Spurrell appeared in court on the weekend on his outstanding warrants and new charges including possession of stolen goods, and failure to comply with probation and release orders.
Perry appeared in court on outstanding warrant and new charge of possession of stolen property. He’s scheduled to appear in court October 2nd.
