The NDP plans to create a committee to reduce transportation costs in Labrador West if the party is successful in the upcoming election.
Leader Jim Dinn says the cost of air travel in, around and out of Labrador by air has outpaced the national average and says his committee would meet with airline executives and the federal government to lower prices.
While Dinn would not commit to how much his party would spend to lower prices, he says the committee would provide recommendations after two years and report back to government.
“I don’t profess to have all the answers right now, but the committee would help not only the people in Labrador West, but the families who are maybe on the island portion of the province.
“It comes down to having that discussion with other jurisdictions, with those who are involved with transportation and also to the businesses and to the people and the organizations in Labrador that depend on air travel to get in and out of the area.”
