An airline passenger had an unexpected layover in Gander after a trans-Atlantic flight had to be diverted because of a disturbance onboard.
RCMP say the flight, en route from New York to Europe, had to divert to Gander International after an unruly passenger assaulted members of the flight crew and had to be secured.
RCMP arrested 25-year-old Kristina Barsgyan and charged her with two counts of assault, two counts of assault of a peace officer and one count of resisting arrest.
She was also charged with interfering with a flight crew member in their performance of their duties under the Aeronautics Act.
She was held in custody to appear in Gander Provincial Court. The Canada Border Services Agency is also engaged and police are asking anyone with possible video of the incident to give them a call at 709-256-6840.
