Thirty-one-year-old Tyler Linthorne, arrested on Saturday after an intensive manhunt, is scheduled to appear in court on multiple charges including assault, kidnapping, and uttering threats.
RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance on the Bonavista Peninsula Highway near Charleston around 10:30 Thursday morning.
Police located the vehicle involved in the Port Rexton area, and a woman, who was calling out for help, was seen being forced into the vehicle. An attempt was made to deflate the vehicle’s tires, but it was last seen speeding along King’s Cove Road.
The vehicle was found damaged and abandoned on a rural road near Catalina, and a police dog and the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team were brought in to assist.
RCMP issued a shelter-in-place order around 6:30 Friday morning as police continued their search for the suspect – it was lifted a short time later when police determined there was no further risk to public safety in the area.
RCMP then responded to the reported theft of a vehicle overnight Friday, and it was located on the Bonavista Peninsula Highway near the Trans Canada on Saturday morning.
Tyler Linthorne was arrested without incident and is being held pending a court appearance on charges of assault, kidnapping, uttering threats, flight from police, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
The woman was found Saturday morning and is safe.
