A mayor in central Newfoundland does not like the PCs’ plan to shut down the satellite Premier’s Office in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The office was established by then-Premier Andrew Furey, but the Tories have never agreed with it. Leader Tony Wakeham said on the campaign trail that if he forms government, it would be axed.
Bryan King, the mayor of Bishop’s Falls, says that office provides the region with a valuable link to the power corridors of government. For instance, he credits the office with helping the town in time of need. They lost their last remaining family doctor, leaving 1,200 people without primary care.
A committee was formed and many meetings followed.
“Because of the work that was put in by the volunteers and this office, we can say today that Bishop’s Falls has a family care clinic operating in our municipality,” says Mayor King.
