Two people were seriously injured in a workplace incident at the Valentine gold mine in central Newfoundland this week.
Sources tell VOCM News it happened Wednesday at the site about 50 kilometres southwest of Millertown.
It’s believed cables on a pulley system malfunctioned and struck both employees who were treated and rushed to hospital.
RCMP have confirmed for VOCM that they responded to the incident Wednesday afternoon but did not release any details, other than to say Occupational Health and Safety investigators are on the case.
A stop-work order has been issued for that area of the mine to operator Equinox Gold.
The company poured first gold ahead of schedule earlier this month.
Once complete, the site is expected to become the largest gold mine in the Atlantic region.
