The Nature Conservancy of Canada has received its largest land donation in its five decade history in Atlantic Canada – and it’s located in central Newfoundland.
Domtar, a company involved in forestry, has donated more than 1,800 hectares of land near the Gander River and Gander Lake, close to the communities of Glenwood and Appleton.
The area includes four parcels of land that the NCC will be able to conserve.
They say the project could also link two potential future conservation areas at Rodney Pond Wilderness Reserve and the Charlie’s Place protected area proposed by the Qalipu First Nation.
