It’s election day in Newfoundland and Labrador for most towns and cities with polls opening at 8:00 am.
Local government is the level which probably has the greatest impact on our lives, but also receives the least amount of attention at the polls, with low voter turnout.
Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador continued its “Make Your Mark” campaign to raise awareness and to encourage people to exercise their right.
This year’s elections pose real problems for eight municipalities that have vote-by-mail options because of the postal strike; however, seven of those are proceeding and expect to maintain election integrity.
The capital decided to postpone the election by six days because of the strike.
Polls close at 8:00 tonight, and VOCM News will have reports throughout the evening on the results.
