The NPD has released its election platform commitment for seniors, promising to raise the seniors’ benefit by 25 per cent.
Leader Jim Dinn because seniors are struggling with rising costs and what he calls inadequate supports, he’s promising, if elected, to raise the seniors’ benefit 25 per cent – and tying any future increases to the rate of inflation.
He says he’s heard “countless stories” from seniors who in retirement have had to take on one, and sometimes two, minimum wage jobs to make ends meet.
The NDP has released what it calls a suite of seniors policies targeted to better support seniors.
They include new Seniors Rights legislation to keep couples together in long-term care, increasing the seniors’ benefit by 25 per cent and increasing wages and benefits for home support workers.
