As Newfoundlanders and Labradorians prepare to head to the polls in just over a week, many newcomers who are not yet eligible will be taking part in a mock election.
The event is being put off by the Association for New Canadians.
The association says it will give newcomer students a first-hand opportunity to learn about the Canadian electoral system.
The ANC, which held a similar event in April during the federal election, says that for many of their students it was their first time experiencing a Canadian election or the opportunity to vote.
The cafeteria at their building on Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s will be converted into a polling station on Wednesday, with students casting their ballots from 9 until noon.
The results of the mock election will be released after the general election on October 14th.
