NDP leader Jim Dinn took aim at Liberal Party donors today to underscore his campaign promise of banning all corporate and union donations.
Dinn spoke with media earlier today outside his campaign headquarters on Cashin Avenue.
The party has launched a website, Who Paid for the Bus, which uses the Liberal campaign bus as the backdrop for a breakdown of which corporations have donated to the party, and how much.
The NDP cite Elections NL filings that indicate 70 per cent of all donations to the Liberals in 2024 came from corporate donors, amounting to $670,000.
Dinn says the PCs were no different when they were in power, and last year they received over $69,000 in corporate donations – 57 per cent of donations received.
When asked why he thinks this is an issue that will resonate with voters, Dinn argues that the issue of “big money” has been around for decades and it is “emblematic” of issues they have brought up in the House of Assembly.
He argues it has been “too many decades of doing politics the same way, focusing on the big buses.” Meanwhile, he says when the election is over people will still be struggling with their rent and electric bills.
