US President Donald Trump is promising that Canada “will walk away very happy” following meetings in Washington today.
Prime Minister Mark Carney led a delegation of cabinet ministers to the US Capitol for his second meeting with the US President since his election in the spring.
While not addressing specific goals, Carney, who Trump called a tough negotiator, struck an optimistic tone, saying the right deal can be made between the two trading partners.
“There are areas where we compete, and it’s in those areas where we have to come to an agreement that works, But there are more areas where we are stronger together…and we’re going to get the right deal.”
Trump predicts Canada will be “very happy” as a result of the latest round of talks.
“We have a lot of things that we are working on that people are going to talk about, they talk about, you know, competitiveness; he’s a very competitive person, and they talk about the things that we don’t necessarily agree on, but I think they’re going to walk away very happy. I think so.”
