A Haricot family was recently involved in the rescue of a shark that had become stranded in shallow water.
Mark Gregory says he received a call from his mom and sister asking him to come down to help them get a shark back out to deeper water.
Gregory says it appears as though a small number of sharks had chased some prey into shallow water and one got stranded on the beach when the tide went out.
He admits he never expected to be involved in a shark rescue. With rubber boots and heavy gloves to protect him, he managed to pull the fish back out to water.
“I grabbed him by the tail, and made sure to stay away from its front end and did my best to carefully drag him across the beach into the water. Then once he was in the water I kind of coaxed him along into some deeper water and kind of stayed by him until he got his bearings. His insides were full of air, so he couldn’t really swim properly first-off.”
Gregory says he stayed close by and watched the shark revive before it eventually swam away.
