Dock workers in Newfoundland and Labrador are calling on all three party leaders to commit to closing the wage gap between them and workers who do similar jobs in Halifax and Montreal.
The Longshoreman’s Protective Union (LSPU) says dock workers too often are underpaid, overworked, and overlooked.
The union says no public money should go to private ports that do not pay family-sustaining wages.
Chris Gosse, President of Local 1953, wants to see the implementation of a Dockers’ Charter and federal collective bargaining agreements for marine cargo, ferry, and offshore services.
