NL Hydro CEO Jennifer Williams is among those congratulating Tony Wakeham on his election victory this week.
The utility is in the midst of finalizing an MOU reached with Hydro Quebec on the expansion of the Upper Churchill and future development of Gull Island – a deal the previous administration claimed would bring thousands of jobs and billions of dollars to the province over the life of the 50 year contract. The deadline is set for April 1st, 2026.
The MOU is now facing uncertainty under a newly-elected premier who campaigned on pausing the discussions and conducting an independent review of the contract and a plebiscite.
Williams says Hydro’s focus and obligation is to serve the best interests of the province and she looks forward to connecting with Wakeham to “discuss how the Crown electricity assets are integral to, and contribute to, the vision and plans for the province’s future.”
