Violence Prevention Avalon East is putting pressure on the federal government to expedite the process for a mother to travel to Egypt after her daughter was allegedly abducted their father.
Last week the RNC issued an arrest warrant for 36-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Shafik Abelfat Elgammal. He is accused of abducting his five-year-old daughter in contravention of a custody or parenting order.
The two are said to be in Egypt.
Now, the organization is calling on the feds to do two things: They want the minister of foreign affairs to expedite the mother’s visa application to travel to Egypt, and they want Ottawa to ensure she can re-enter Canada, which is something not currently guaranteed due to her immigrant status.
An online petition has been launched to support the cause.
