A well-known Newfoundlander and photographer who gained a substantial following on the social media platform X through his posts highlighting the simple joys in life, has passed away.
Stan Collins of Rocky Harbour passed away on Tuesday at the age of 79.
Collins had more than 46,000 followers on a platform that in recent years has become better known for it’s negativity rather than helping people feel good.
Knowing nothing about social media I open my X account as an easy way of sharing pictures among family who seemed to enjoy them. I thought I may have around 50 followers, and had absolutely no expectation that the account would grow to 45 thousand folks from around the world. pic.twitter.com/9FRCZuRFH2

By Collins’ own account, photography made him feel happy and he shared that joy and passion with his followers starting about 15 years ago.
From scenic vistas, to his pets, to finding pleasure in the ordinary and everyday, Collins shared positivity with his followers all around the world.
I expect the closest followers to me have been expecting this announcement sooner than later now. This is one of the first pictures I ever posted on X so I will use it as one of my last also. Sadly, my health at almost 80 has given up on me and I am now unable to take pictures. pic.twitter.com/o7RClEx7qd

While he was a prolific poster, declining health reduced his usual daily output to a scattered few posts in recent weeks, but still his positivity shone through.
His last post was just a couple of days before he died.
Condolences are now pouring in from the thousands of people who took joy from his regular postings.
I would be remiss if I did not for one final time thank you all so much for your ongoing interest. Some of you have been following me every day for almost 15 years, and all your friendship over the years has meant so much. It has been quite a look at the social media experience. pic.twitter.com/KvVDAtrrkb
